NATO Program on Science and Technology Policy and Organization. Information about several NATO funding programs (internships, graduate scholarships, advanced training courses, consultancies, and forums) aimed at meeting the needs of S&T policy in the NATO partner countries (i.e., the CEE nations). Orientation: Central and Eastern Europe. A regional portal and search engine for the CEE countries. Its content "focuses on everything from entertainment to science and technology to culture and society." This is an outstanding resource. Economic Growth Links for Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. A very handy set of links from USAID. Includes international financing institutions, governmental organizations, academic and research institutions, economic organizations, and more. Unfortunately, the list has not been maintained and some of the links are out of date. Bridging the Digital Divide: Internet Access in Central and Eastern Europe. A comprehensive set of facts and figures on telecommunications and Internet penetration in the CEE countries, organized by country. Prepared by the Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington, DC. Updated March 2000. U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA): Central and Eastern Europe. USTDA is a government agency that provides funding for U.S. companies to conduct feasibility studies on major projects in developing and middle income countries, thereby promoting economic development while helping American companies get involved in projects that offer significant export opportunities. European Science Foundation, science and technology in Eastern Europe. Reports and information about several recent (2000 and 2001) conferences. Country Profiles: Central and Eastern Europe. Brief description of human resources for science and technology in the CEE countries prepared by the U.S. National Science Foundation. Innovation Systems in Central and Eastern Europe. Description of research projects at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, U.K. Central and Eastern European Networking Association. An association of national organizations which focus on the academic, research and educational networking. Membership currently includes 26 national research and education networks. The site contains a vast amount of information about the organization and about academic and research networking in the CEE region. "Inkpot"--Newspaper links for Eastern Europe and Russia. Not strictly S&T, but useful for news of all types from the CEE region. The site has not been updated since February 1999, so some links are undoubtedly broken. Moreover.com. A "news portal" for Central and Eastern Europe. Current headlines from the press in CEE countries. IOS Press backlist of NATO books on S&T policy, many of which are devoted to Central and Eastern Europe. Environment, Science and Technology Section of the U.S. Embassy in Budapest. Describes the section's mission and includes a small but well-selected list of links related to S&T and environmental issues in the CEE region, including U.S. and Hungarian government agencies. |
